EVs Ireland

EV Buyer Check

Two identical cars. Very different batteries.

Two used EVs with the same mileage can hide very different batteries underneath. Get an independent check on the actual car — battery health, history, and a fair price — before you hand over money or accept an offer.

Why

Commissioned by you, not the seller.

A manufacturer's own battery reading (like Tesla's built-in check) needs the current owner's cooperation to run — a buyer can't commission it themselves, and can't verify a bad result wasn't quietly left unshown. A seller who orders their own battery certificate has an incentive to show a good one. Ours is different: you order it, on the specific car you're looking at, independently of whoever is selling it.

How battery testing actually works

What's included

Battery health test

An independent state-of-health (SoH) reading on the actual car — not the number on a spec sheet, and not a manufacturer reading that needs the seller's cooperation to produce.

Vehicle history check

Outstanding finance, write-off status, stolen-vehicle records, and mileage discrepancies — the same checks a dealer would run, done on your behalf.

Fair-price benchmark

How this car's asking price compares to similar listings right now, so you know whether you're paying a fair price before you negotiate.

Two check tiers: Flash (€100–150, the OBD-based reading above) for almost everyone, or Premium (€250–300, a full charge/discharge cycle) if you want maximum assurance on the one car you're about to commit to — see how battery testing works for the difference. Deciding how to pay for it or insure it too? Add a financing estimate (+€20) or insurance estimate (+€30) for this specific car when you request your check.

How it works

  1. 1

    Tell us about the car

Submit the vehicle's details — it takes about two minutes.

  2. 2

    We do the legwork

We book the battery test, pull the history check, and benchmark the price against live listings.

  3. 3

    You get your results

A clear, written check within 48 hours of the test.

By the numbers

13.5%

The gap AVILOO found in battery health between the best and worst examples of the same EV model at the same mileage, across 500,000+ independent tests.

48hours

How long after the physical test it typically takes to get your written results back.

FAQ

Who actually runs the test?

We book an independent technician to test the car in person — the same category of test (an OBD-based battery health reading) used across the industry, not a self-reported number from the car's own dashboard.

Do I need the seller's permission?

Yes — the test happens on the physical car, so you'll need to arrange access with the seller (e.g. as part of a viewing). We help coordinate timing once you submit a request.

What if the battery test comes back bad?

You still get the full written result either way. Knowing a car has a problem before you buy it is the point — it's information to negotiate with or walk away on, not something we hide.

What's the difference between Flash and Premium?

Flash (€100–150) is the OBD-based reading described above — right for almost everyone. Premium (€250–300) is a full charge/discharge cycle test, giving the most direct battery reading available, for a buyer who wants maximum assurance on the one specific car they're about to commit to. It takes longer and needs the seller's cooperation to arrange.

How much does it cost, and when do I pay?

€100–150 for Flash, €250–300 for Premium, depending on add-ons. We'll email you to confirm the vehicle details and arrange payment before anything is booked — nothing is charged when you submit a request.

Is this available everywhere in Ireland?

We're running this by hand while we validate demand, so availability depends on location — tell us where the car is when you request a check and we'll confirm.

Will EV battery data just become public eventually?

Partly — the EU's Battery Passport rules require manufacturers to make battery data (including state of health) digitally accessible from February 2027, starting with new batteries. That's useful, but it's manufacturer-reported data, not an independent test — it doesn't replace a check commissioned by you, on the actual car, from someone with no stake in the result.
